All pregnant women should have access to life-saving ultrasound diagnostics.

To realize this vision, the NYAGI Project teaches healthcare providers working in underserved areas how to triage life-threatening conditions using ultrasound.

We also teach other life-saving diagnostic skills such as COVID-19 lung disease, bleeding in the abdomen and pelvis, blood clots, bone fractures, joint infections, and more.

Every 2 minutes, a woman dies from pregnancy or childbirth, equivalent to two jumbo planes crashing every day. Most of these deaths occur in remote areas and are preventable.

To combat this sad statistic, the NYAGI Project was established in 2015 by Dr. Cliff Gronseth, a physician in Boulder, Colorado, USA, with a passion for teaching ultrasound skills worldwide.

NYAGI Project’s approach is unique. We harness the power of technology to teach healthcare workers diagnostic ultrasound, with a strong focus on getting ultrasound to rural, “off-the-road” areas of the world.

7D Imaging’s unique X-NAV educational software provides ongoing educational tools. The X-NAV app (which works offline) accelerates learning for health workers to recognize life-threatening pregnancy conditions requiring higher-level care.

We empower local medical providers with knowledge and technological tools to teach diagnostic ultrasound to others.

We aim to deliver sustainable, scalable projects that elevate the quality of regional healthcare in remote areas.

NYAGI Project relies on dedicated expert volunteers, among them: certified sonographers, physicians, nurses, retired professionals, university students, and community members.

They contribute by teaching ultrasound skills, organizing logistics, programming software, raising funds and mobilizing resources, preparing written and visual documentation, conducting research and assessment. Guided by its motto, “Saving Lives with Ultrasound...Together!”

NYAGI Project works closely with in-country partners to maximize resources and impact.

NYAGI’s hands-on training includes:

• Nepal: 2016 and 2017

• Haiti: 2019 and 2020

• In 2020, due to COVID pandemic, NYAGI fine-tuned its training platform to teach ultrasound skills remotely for diagnosing COVID pneumonia as well as pre-natal and emergency medicine.

• 2021: Nicaragua and Tanzania.

• 2025: Somaliland

• 2026: Cambodia

In Nepal, NYAGI Project trained 60 Skilled Birth Attendants working in 30 different clinics, many in remote areas. Data from One Heart Worldwide, our Nepalese partner, indicate that about 10-20 mothers are referred each month for advanced medical care based on ultrasound findings. We consider those lives saved.

In Haiti, the NYAGI Project trained 30+ physicians and nurses who work in 21 clinics serving a diverse population.

In Somaliland, we trained 5 doctors and advanced midwives Triage OUT™ ultrasound skills, who now are teaching midwives working in rural clinics around Hargeisa, the capital city.

In Cambodia, we taught 6 Master trainers the Triage OUT™ model and are now teaching prenatal ultrasound skills to colleagues who staff local health centers in 2 different provinces.
